Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a gentle, non-toxic, pleasant, yet powerful tool for healing. It is based on the topical application of botanical oils – essential oils – extracted from flowers, grass, barks and herbs. Essential oils can help the healing process and bring wholeness in many ways: physical, mental and spiritual. Aromatherapy essential oils were first used in medicinal healing work. Essential oils can be applied to the Reflexology points on the bottom of the feet or directly on the skin to the area of need.

Aromatherapy is a gentle, non-toxic, yet powerful tool for healing. It is based on the topical application of botanical oils - essential oils - extracted from flowers, grass, barks and herbs. Essential oils help the healing process and bring wholeness in many ways - physical, mental and spiritual. Aromatherapy and essential oils were used for medicinal healing throughout history. Essential oils are applied in several ways: to the Reflexology points on the bottom of the feet, directly onto the skin in the area of need, or diffused into the environment.

Essential oils contain oxygenating molecules that transport nutrients to the cells of the body. These highly fragrant oils affect the neurotransmitters in the brain through one's sense of smell. Neurotransmitters in turn initiate physical and psychological reactions that can enhance physical healing, self-esteem and emotional balance. When combined with other hands-on healing modalities, Aromatherapy oils accelerate the therapeutic value of both.

In the field of mental health, evidence suggests that Peppermint, Frankincense and Geranium assist in concentration, mental accuracy and emotion equilibrium. Basil, Birch, Cypress and Marjoram oils are found useful for muscle aches and pains.

In the pursuit of soothing and revitalizing the skin, Rosewood, Patchouly and Lavender are traditional favorites. Orange Blossom, Grapefruit and Lemon oils are thought to help with aging skin, dissolve cellulite and increase the lymphatic functioning. Sandalwood is good for dry skin. Lavender can be used for burns, insomnia, PMS, stress and hair loss.

Comments

A classroom kindergarten teacher of nineteen children with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) diffused the oil Peace and Calming into her classroom. It soon soothed all the children, in particular a normally agitated boy, who especially liked the smell. At nap time, a drop of the same oil was applied to their shirt collars allowing them to relax and easily fall asleep.
